Phones We Buy

  • Financed phones still on a carrier or store payment plan, regardless of how much is owed
  • Paid-off, unlocked phones
  • Carrier-locked phones from most major carriers
  • Phones blocked for non-payment
  • iPhones and Samsung Galaxy phones—ask us about other models
  • Cracked or damaged phones, including phones that are still financed

We generally buy devices four years old or newer. Text us if you’re unsure whether yours qualifies. If it’s damaged, see our cracked iPhone cash-buying page for the issues we accept.

Financed vs. Carrier-Locked: What’s the Difference?

Financed means you’re still paying for the device through a carrier or store, and a balance remains on that payment plan.

Carrier-locked means the phone is restricted to a particular carrier until it meets that carrier’s unlock requirements. Being paid off and being unlocked are separate things, so check both statuses if you can.

Many phones are both financed and carrier-locked. We buy those too. For a more detailed explanation, read Can You Sell a Financed or Carrier-Locked Phone in Idaho?

How to Sell Your Financed Phone Locally

  1. Tell us about your phone. Text the model, storage size, carrier, condition, and whether it’s paid off and unlocked or still financed and carrier locked. Mention any non-payment block or damage.
  2. Get your cash offer. We quote based on the device and its status. The amount remaining on your payment plan is not a pricing factor.
  3. Arrange a public meetup. Choose a time and a convenient public location with us.
  4. Get inspected and paid. We verify the phone’s condition and status in person, then pay cash at the meetup. No shipping and no waiting for a mailed payment.

What Happens to Your Remaining Balance?

Selling your phone does not pay off or transfer your remaining balance. You remain responsible for the payments under your agreement with your carrier or financing provider. ShellPhone Wireless does not take over that agreement.

How much you still owe does not change whether we’ll buy the phone. Tell us whether it’s paid off and unlocked, financed and still carrier-locked, or blocked for non-payment so we can quote it accurately.

What Affects Your Cash Offer?

  • Your phone’s model and storage size
  • Its cosmetic and working condition, including cracks or other damage
  • Whether it’s paid off and unlocked, financed and carrier-locked, or blocked for non-payment

Paid-off, unlocked phones usually bring more because they can be used on more networks. We buy both unlocked and carrier-locked phones. Describe all known issues when requesting your quote so the offer reflects the phone you bring.

Before We Meet

  • Check whether your phone is paid off, financed, unlocked, or carrier-locked. If you’re not sure, tell us.
  • Back up photos and other data you want to keep.
  • Sign out of iCloud and turn off Find My iPhone, or remove your Google and Samsung accounts on a Galaxy.
  • Remove your SIM card.
  • Keep your carrier account PIN and passwords private.

Follow our phone preparation guide for the full steps. If your screen is damaged or you cannot access the device, let us know before meeting.

Why Sell to ShellPhone Wireless?

With over six years of experience and thousands of devices purchased, we’re a local buyer you can meet face to face. We buy financed and carrier-locked phones that some buyers won’t accept, and explain the offer before arranging a meetup.

You see the phone inspected in person and get paid on the spot. You can also sell a financed iPhone with a cracked screen or back glass—just tell us about the damage when you ask for your quote.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I sell a phone I’m still paying off?

Yes. ShellPhone Wireless buys financed phones from most major carriers. The amount you still owe does not determine whether we will buy it. You remain responsible for the remaining balance under your financing agreement.

Does the amount I owe affect my cash offer?

The remaining balance is not a pricing factor for our quote. Your phone’s model, storage, condition, and status—paid off and unlocked, financed and carrier-locked, or blocked for non-payment—are what we need to know.

Do you buy phones blocked for non-payment?

Yes. Tell us the model, carrier, and that it has been blocked for non-payment when you request your quote. A non-payment block is different from a phone being reported lost or stolen; we check device status before purchasing.

Which carriers do you buy from?

We buy phones from most major carriers. Text us your carrier and model and we’ll confirm whether we can make an offer.

Is a carrier-locked phone worth less than an unlocked phone?

Usually, yes. A paid-off, unlocked phone can be used on more networks, which often makes it more valuable. We buy financed and carrier-locked phones too, with an offer based on their status and condition.

What if my financed phone is also cracked?

We buy damaged phones too. Include a photo and describe any screen, back glass, camera, battery, or charging issues. Learn more about selling a cracked iPhone for cash.

Do I have to unlock my phone before selling it?

No. We buy carrier-locked phones. A carrier lock is different from an Apple, Google, or Samsung account lock, so tell us about any account access issues before the meetup. Never send us your account passwords or carrier PIN.

How fast do I get paid, and what should I bring?

We inspect the phone in person and pay cash at the meetup. Back up your data, remove your SIM, and sign out of iCloud or your Google and Samsung accounts before the sale. If damage prevents those steps, tell us in advance.
